The history of the Vigne Matte winery began with the foresight of an entrepreneur who, in love with Rolle and with wine, in 1998 wanted to get back into the game in a new sector dear to him. The Rui family decided to expand the properties by acquiring the Casale Rosso, which is located in Rolle on the top of the hill. In these years, in order to enhance Rolle, a small picturesque village, the Rui family created the Vigne Matte winery. The Cellar was designed and entirely built inside the hill, it is therefore visible only from the ridge where the slope descends towards the vineyards. A meticulous architectural intervention. Even the choice of the name “Vigne Matte” is closely linked to the evocation of this territory and to the good fortune of possessing the stocks of ancient vines that still thrive among the boulders today. Thanks to the strong and long roots, these ancient strains still manage to creep into the ground and take what is necessary to feed themselves. Despite the difficulties, even in the driest periods they manage to bear their best fruit.
