With 519 member companies for 16 designations of origin, of which 4 Docg, the Marche Institute for the Protection of Wines – Imt – is a unique reality of its kind in Italy. Today the consortium represents 89% of the bottled products of the reference area and the majority of the Marche wine exports. With over 7,500 hectares in the provinces of Ancona, Macerata, Pesaro-Urbino and Fermo, it accounts for 45% of the entire regional vineyard area. Teamwork between producers and territory, ability to invest, but also strong territorial identity and motivation of the wineries to focus on quality as a symbol of the Marche Brand to overcome the challenges of globalization. This, in short, is the recipe for success of the maxi-consortium currently chaired by Michele Bernetti and directed by Alberto Mazzoni. Founded in 1999 thanks to 19 far-sighted members with 7 protected designations, today IMT represents 16 designations out of 20 in the Marche region, contributing to the enhancement of the wine Marches in Italy and in the world. The leading product and ambassador of excellence is Verdicchio, which in 2018 celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Castelli di Jesi Doc. A native vine of great versatility, Verdicchio provides wines that are ready to drink but also with surprising ageing potential, with a qualitative breakthrough that in recent years has been detected by enthusiasts and experts both nationally and internationally.
